Janet grabbed her camera-man and pulled him closer to her. "Billy, what's up with all this anyhow? I read up on this asshole but what's with all the security?" The camera-man shrugged his shoulder and kept working on a dry and tasteless Power-Bar he had bought earlier. "Beats me. I heard someone else say something about an attempt on one of the keynote speaker's life. I think it was in another country and sometime last week, but I wasn't really listening."

Janet looked back at the competing station's camera crew being led by a group of no less than a dozen security men out of the building. In all her years, she had always seen herself and others eventually make it in, even if detained. She had never actually seen someone turned away. Not on a domestic news event. "In fact," she thought as she looked around, "this whole place is crawling with executives and their collective bodyguards." The horizon was dotted with tuxedos and dresses, many of them wearing earpieces and mingling with guests.

Janet caught sight of one of the undercover security men bump up against a patron and apologize, only to look at another "earpiece" and shake his head. Whatever the need was for the furtive attempt to check for something on the man's possession, nothing appeared to be found. The action was not lost to her keen eye. She had never seen such a high amount of security before. Something very odd was going on here tonight.
